UCL Reading research project (England only) seeking deaf children currently at pre-school

Posted in News

Can you assist?
Researchers at University College London (UCL) are just starting a research project (England only) in which they will examine reading development in deaf children from when they start in Reception to Yr 2. They will examine the role of visual language (speechreading & BSL) in this development. This will help resolve some unanswered questions about the trajectory of reading development in deaf children. They are looking for a wide range of deaf children to be involved – those who use BSL and also those who do not.
They are looking for deaf children to participate who:
–          will be in Reception in the school year 2022/23
–          were diagnosed as severely or profoundly deaf before the age of 3yrs
–          have lived in the UK for at least the last 6 months
–          have no disabilities that would prevent them from completing 30mins of tasks on a computer

Are you interested in the children at your school being involved?
This letter provides further information about the project to help you consider this request.  Also this Parent Information Sheet which provides further details.
Please do contact the team ([email protected]) if would like further information about the research or if you would like to meet online/ have a phone call to discuss this further.
They very much hope that you are interested in being involved and look forward to hearing from you soon.
