It is BATOD’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our website. This Privacy Policy applies to batod.org.uk (hereinafter, “us”, “we”, or “batod.org.uk”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting personally identifiable information you may provide us through the website in accordance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation 2018/Data Protection Act 2018. We have adopted this Privacy Policy to explain what information may be collected on our website, how we use this information, and under what circumstances we may disclose the information to third parties. Website visitors

BATOD’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how BATOD’s visitors use its website. From time to time, BATOD may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate e.g. by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.
BATOD also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on http://www.batod.org.uk CPD blog posts. BATOD only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.
Gathering of personally-identifying information
Certain visitors to BATOD’s websites choose to interact with BATOD in ways that require BATOD to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that BATOD gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for membership of BATOD to provide a username and postal and email addresses so that we may use their information to process and support their membership. We also ask for information about job titles, employers, date of birth and hearing status.

Protection of certain personally-identifying information
BATOD discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those agreed organisations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on BATOD’s behalf eg our journal and magazine distributors for the purpose of sending publications to our members and GoCardless who manage direct debit payments or to provide membership services and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others.
Email addresses only are shared with MailChimp in order so that members can receive updated newsletters.
BATOD makes use of information supplied by members in the CPD area of the website in order better to support this aspect of our members’ professional life through analysis of data supplied by members using that section of the website. Any data gathered for this purpose is anonymised.
We only retain data for the duration of the lifetime of membership after which time information is deleted.
Some of those affiliated organisations may be located outside the UK. By using BATOD’s website, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. BATOD will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its affiliated organisations, as described above, BATOD discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when BATOD believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of BATOD, third parties or the public at large.

E-commerce
Those who engage in transactions with BATOD – by purchasing BATOD’s services or products, are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. BATOD does not store on its website any financial details of its members. BATOD only retains bank details for those members who do not pay directly thought GoCardless. These are not stored on our website and are kept in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act. 2018. BATOD does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. Visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

- woocommerce_cart_hash and woocommerce_items_in_cart: These cookies are set by WooCommerce which powers the e-commerce side of the site. They contain information about the cart/basket as a whole and helps WooCommerce know then the cart changes. These are both session cookies so will expire when you close the site.
- wp_woocommerce_session_#: This cookie is also set by WooCommerce. It contains a unique code for each customer so that it knows where to find your cart data in the database. No personal information is stored. This cookie will expire after 48 hours.
- wordpress_logged_in_: This cookie is set by WordPress which is the content management system that our website is built using and it tells the site if you’re logged in. This means we can give you access to your account on the site. It is a ‘session’ cookie, which means it expires as soon as you close the site.
