About Ko Taku Reo
Ko Taku Reo, Deaf Education New Zealand is New Zealand’s sole provider of education services for Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) ākonga, students. With a large team of over 400 specialist staff across New Zealand, Ko Taku Reo has specialist school provisions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, New Zealand and supports over 3000 students in mainstream schools nationwide.

A bilingual, bicultural organisation, with both Deaf and hearing staff, New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and English are used on a communication continuum throughout, from administration to the classroom. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Board of Trustees and leading a small and capable executive team, the Executive Principal leads and oversees the achievement of the organisation wide strategic objectives. In doing this, the Executive Principal will, amongst other things:
• Lead a high performing executive team, providing coaching and a performance framework to empower and enable each member of the team to achieve individual, team and organisational objectives.
• Foster a positive culture of safety, health and wellness and model behaviours that reflect the values of Ko Taku Reo.
• Champion DHH learners and all staff, with a dedication to providing high quality learning opportunities.
• Support the Board of Trustees in the preparation and review of strategic objectives and priorities. Lead the successful execution of all strategic and operating plans created from the agreed strategic objectives and priorities.
• Develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with all stakeholders of Ko Taku Reo to support the learning outcomes of the students.
• Shape the creation of learning environments where students will experience on-going success in learning.
• Lead an operating model that enables the effective discharge of all statutory, regulatory, budgetary and other compliance requirements.

About you
To be successful in this exciting role, you will be a qualified and experienced school Principal, bringing strong senior leadership capabilities. With an understanding of deaf education, a passion for education equity across diverse groups and an appreciation of the importance of Māori culture and Te Reo Māori, you will see this role at Ko Taku Reo as the natural progression in your career.

A strong leader of people and in the execution of strategy, you can demonstrate your capability in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes throughout your career. A natural connector, stakeholder engagement and the management of a diverse range of relationships will be key tools in your toolbox. As you will appreciate, your conversational skills in sign language and a willingness to build your capability will be critical to your success in this leadership position.
