“Not being able to speak is not the same as not having anything to say”
This course will be of interest to Teachers of Visual Impairment, Teachers of the Deaf, Teaching and Non Teaching staff in special schools, Early Years staff, and Third Sector.
This half day course explores Intensive Interaction and how to make connections with children and young people who are hard to reach. “Intensive interaction works on early interaction abilities – how to enjoy being with other people, to relate, interact, know, understand and practice communication routines” (Dave Hewett – co-founder of intensive interaction).
During this course participants will learn about the theories behind this approach and the strategies to help us enter another person’s world. Staff will share their experiences of using intensive interaction. There will be opportunities to see lots of positive examples of how this approach is being used and how it is incorporated into everyday interactions.
The course will highlight how to use this approach within your education settings; to increase children and young people’s motivation and engagement in learning and promote their wellbeing. There will also be a focus on how to track and monitor each pupil’s progress and levels of engagement.
