This 1-day course is designed for support staff, mainstream teachers, teachers of the deaf that are new to the profession.
The course will involve both a taught and practical component. We will begin by exploring:
- the different types of deafness;
- the challenges of listening in the classroom; and
- the different types of assistive technology that can be used by deaf learners.
The course will then look at case studies (ideally participants will bring along their own experiences and questions) which will help to put the theory into practice.
Finally, there will be a hands on session with the assistive listening devices. Participants will learn how to check hearing aids, set up and check assistive listening devices in the classroom and re-tube ear moulds.
Restrictions: 21 places only.

Pupil Support Staff, Communication Support Workers, mainstream teachers, teachers of deaf children & young people that are new to the profession and speech and language therapists.
