Join the British Library, BookTrust and Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho, this National Libraries Week for a spectacular celebration of books!
On stage, explore poetry prompts and the wonder of libraries with Joseph Coelho; accompany Michael Rosen into the land of nonsense; take a trip to India with Jasbinder Bilan and Rikin Parekh; and draw spooky characters with Flavia Z. Drago.
Then build, write, draw, dance and perform as we invite you to create in the Library.
Will you be inspired to make a concertina book, experiment with pop-up stories, draw in our giant OKIDO comic, imagine a curious creature, or print a bird-inspired mobile? You’ll get the chance to work with authors and illustrators OKIDO, Viviane Schwarz, Rose Robbins, Sharon King Chai and Yu Rong.
Dance with us as the Royal Opera House’s Everybody Dance invites you to learn choreography inspired by Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Younger visitors can dance into the world of Nursery Rhymes.
Be entertained by Discover Children’s Story Centre as they present a performance of The Best Worst Day Ever by Sophie Henn.
Then perform with Fairy Tale shadow puppets, join in our sensory storytelling, and build an adventure in our Magical Library.
Come along to discover Joseph Coelho’s epic cross-country mission to join a library in every local authority in the UK. On the final stop on his nationwide ‘Library Marathon’ tour, he’ll be joining the Family Day to celebrate.

Storytelling and talks are supported by BSL interpretation.
