Thursday, September 28 · 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (ET) 7 – 8pm (BST)
“During this workshop you’ll be introduced to the newly released Create a World of Deaf Readers: Standards for Sign Language Storybooks produced by Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID), with support from All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development (ACR GCD).
Join this workshop to learn how to develop high quality sign language storybooks that address the dearth of books available globally for children who are deaf and, ultimately, enhance literacy learning for children with disabilities.
Your workshop presenters include:
- Chris Kurz, Ph.D. – author, RIT/NTID
- Josh Josa – Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Analyst, USAID
- Erin Williams – project manager, All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development
The Standards for Sign Language Storybooks are now available here along with their on demand YouTube lessons. To complement these Standards, RIT/NTID has also created a Signed Reference Guide that accompanies the narrative and recaps the chapters in International Sign. It was specifically commissioned to create a resource for a global audience, comprised of local DPOs, teachers, and parents. The Signed Reference Guide has 12 lessons hosted on the Deaf World Around You (WAY) platform and on YouTube.
The webinar will be conducted in American Sign Language and English, with English captions.
A zoom link will be provided to registered attendees the day before the event.”
