Advertising Manager
Tenure
Three years, for a maximum of two cycles
*To avoid conflict of interest/biased engagement, the postholder cannot hold active membership in Region/Nation committees or Special Interest Groups
Notice period – to allow the Association time to appoint a replacement, six months’ notice is required
Time commitment
As appropriate to tasks (on average 6-8 hours/month) in addition to:
- Attendance at annual Magazine meeting
- Attendance at conference planning committee meetings
- Attendance at national conference
- Attendance, as required, at any webinar planning meetings that have sponsorship involvement, NEC/Steering Group
Main purposes of role
- Generate advertising income
- Develop and maintain positive professional, non-biased, relationships with a range of companies, manufacturers, agencies, etc to secure sponsorship
Key tasks
- Develop advertising packages – media pack/event specific packages
- Contact potential advertisers and send information about advertising to them to encourage buying space in the magazine and/or website, through the media pack and at BATOD events (live and virtual)
- Contact regular advertisers, provide updates about advertising opportunities and confirm deadline dates
- Receive adverts, check and produce list and send magazine specific adverts to the Communication editor and magazine Production Manager about page requirements for agreed deadline dates by email
- Maintain and share regularly up to date records for BATOD finance processes
- Liaise with conference committee to design and confirm exhibitor package options
- Liaise with exhibitors to confirm and action their purchased option(s)
- Work with conference committee and venue to ensure all requirements in place for events.
- Attend conference to ensure smooth running of exhibitors and promotional slots at events
- Engage with region/nation Study day planning teams to establish parity in offers with suppliers
- Review annually, with Steering Group, conference committee and magazine personnel the respective aspects of the advertising offer in order to maintain the revenue
- Pursue international advertising as suitable in relation to international articles and event contributions
Key outcomes
- Increased awareness among members/website visitors/conference delegates of offers/resources from a range of providers
- Impartial promotion of a range of commercial and non-commercial providers
- Sponsorship income provides financial offset against the Association’s running costs, resulting in greater benefits for members and supporting the sustainability of the association

Financial implication:
Honorarium £500
(expectation to secure advertising income above £12000)
Recommended knowledge and experience
- Must be an experienced BATOD member (Full or special)
- Knowledge and understanding of BATOD’s aims and values
- Knowledge and understanding of how the Association operates
- Experience and understanding of the needs of BATOD members
- Good communication skills
- Effective time management
