6 years in total: elected for 2 years as President Elect, 2 years as President and 2 years as Past President.  

 

Entitled to remain on National Executive Council (NEC) for a further two years ex-officio (optional) 

Notice period – to allow the Association time to appoint a replacement, six months notice is required     

Time Commitment 

 

 Attendance at meetings in person or virtual: 

  • NEC x 4 per year  
  • Steering group x 4 per year  
  • AGM once per year  
  • Others by agreement with Steering Group members with regard to Association Business.  
  • Regular and timely response to association related emails 

 

Time commitment varies (depending on time of year) but usually requires weekly commitment of no more than an hour a week. 

More to be expected if standing as Line Manager for the NEO. 

Main purposes of role 

  

  

  

  

 

  

The Honorary Past President shall be responsible for  

  • supporting the role of President 
  • supporting the President Elect in preparing for and understanding the requirements of the role of President  
  • facilitating the smooth transfer from President Elect to President through support and guidance 
  • deputising for the President if necessary 
  • liaising with members of SG, NEC and with the NEO  
  • continuing to work on key and strategic areas from tenure as President as required

Other duties:   

  • Please note that as this is an elected post the holder is a fully participant member of the Steering Group and NEC.   
  • The post holder may therefore be required to undertake additional duties as a member of SG and NEC.   
  • These may include duties such as timely engagement with consultations, responses from SG or NEC, attendance at additional meetings and any other duties as required.

  • Smooth transfer to President for President Elect  
  • The President and the work of the Steering Group and NEC are supported to achieve the aims and priorities of the Association. 
  • Any actions or requests are dealt with in a timely manner and reported back to Steering Group, NEO or President as relevant. 

 

 

Responsible for staff/equipment   

  

Continued Line Management of NEO if required 

 

Reporting to…  

 

Steering Group. 

  • All work is done in collaboration with other Steering Group and NEC members. 
  • Major items are discussed and confirmed with other Steering Group members and ratified by the NEC. 

  

 

Financial 

 

 

Normal BATOD expenses payable for SG/NEC attendance and agreed associated expenses. 

 

Recommended Knowledge and Experience 
  • BATOD member  
  • Experience on NEC 
  • Secure understanding of the way BATOD works and the roles and responsibilities within BATOD 
  • Leadership experience or equivalent with relevant experience of line management where appropriate (only if Line Managing the NEO)
