Time commitment

Maximum 360 hours over 12 months

Monthly time allocation will vary according to need.

Time will be recorded on a timesheet and invoiced monthly

Monthly amounts will vary but should not exceed annual total

Main purposes of role

1.   Effective and timely communication of any relevant information to members, via the website, magazine, newsletter and social media outlets.

2.   Contribute to house style/proofreading of BATOD publications e.g. consultation responses, association publications and annual report

 

Key tasks

Meetings commitment:

  1. Online think tank meetings for magazine (three/four meetings per year)
  2. Annual Magazine Meeting
  3. Online meetings for wider BATOD activities as required

Activities undertaken:

a. Professional roles

    1. Issue any press releases in collaboration with appropriate members of the association.

2.   Liaise with BATOD Conference Committee regarding information sharing with members

b.   Administrative responsibilities

1.   Proof reading and publication of consultation responses and other documents in conjunction with Consultant Co-ordinator/NEO

c.   Website/social media responsibilities

    1. Monitor and update website/social media platforms as necessary
    2. Add new content and modify webpages as requested by line manager

Magazine related activities undertaken:

  1. Chair think tank discussion having invited external members; follow up any necessary contacts along with commissioning editor
  2. Source from recommendations, and follow up on, articles not within the overall Magazine theme
  3. Collate, select and edit reports on association business
  4. Overview reviews, regular pages eg President’s comments, ‘Representing you’
  5. Support commissioning editors through regular contact and where necessary following up contacts
  6. Edit commissioned (usually related to the theme) and non-thematic articles and other items prior to submitting to production manager
  7. Make editorial decisions relating to location of articles within the magazine and decide on cover photo with production manager
  8. Maintain liaison with production manager and advertising manager as necessary
  9. Maintain links with printers
  10. Receive and scrutinise all proofs and liaise with proofreading team and feedback comments to production manager
  11. Send out complimentary magazines and thank you letters as appropriate
  12. Ensure smooth liaison between printer, advertising manager and distributor
  13. Collate information from the NEO to create and distribute a BATOD newsletter on a twice termly basis.

Additional duties

The Communication Editor shall also carry out any additional tasks as deemed in the best interests of the Association by Steering Group and the Line Manager.

 

Key outcomes 

  1. Members are kept informed of all developments and matters of interest through a range of communication outlets.
  2. Association members continue to received clear, comprehensive  and accurate information via sources quoted above, in line with specified timeline.
  3. The quality of published information remains high.
  4. Any feedback from members is shared with line manager and necessary action taken.

Responsible for staff/equipment 

Oversight of the work of magazine production manager.

Financial implications

Commissioned freelance support at an hourly rate of £25

Maximum charges payable 12 x 30 x £25 = £9000

 

Recommended knowledge and experience

·       Qualified Teacher status and QToD

·       BATOD Member

·       Understanding of the breadth of the work of BATOD.

·       Current or previous involvement with the BATOD Magazine Team

·       Proofreading and editing experience with a range of high-level publications

·       Excellent organisational skills, writing ability, communication skills, proofreading skills

·       Good interpersonal skills and ability to work and liaise with a range of professionals, agencies and organisations.

·       Resilience and willingness to learn.

·       Experience of social media and website publishing
