Technology in our hands: changing the world with deaf children and young people

Call for contributions
The British Association of Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People (BATOD) and the British Association of Educational Audiologists (BAEA), with support from BATOD South West and BAEA South, invite all interested parties (teachers, professionals, lecturers, researchers, developers and manufacturers of technical devices, service providers, service users, policy makers, students etc) to present their work.
Technology is central to the lives of deaf children and young people, offering tools for extending participation in education, work and leisure. This conference will allow those working in the field to share information and explore how deaf children’s future lives can be enhanced and extended by technology in its broadest terms.
Papers and presentations may consider areas such as:
1) innovations with technology hardware and software
2) Artificial intelligence
3) Apps for communication, participation and interaction
4) Gaming and online leisure or social activities
5) Technology for signed and spoken languages
6) Assistive listening technology
7) Accessibility for work and involvement in society
Abstracts for paper presentations (30 min), workshops/interactive presentations (60 min) and poster presentations are welcomed.
Submission guidelines
- All materials should be provided in English.
- Abstracts should be submitted in Word format. Videos may not be submitted.
- Word limit for abstracts is 250 words. Graphs, charts and tables should not be included.
- The abstract should be accompanied by an indication of the type of presentation (paper presentation, workshop/interactive presentation, poster) and full information about the author/presenter: first and last names, email address, affiliation (e.g. university, institute, school, company) and its postal address.
- For presentations on empirical studies, data collection and all analyses must be completed prior to submission.
- Abstracts cannot be modified once they have been submitted.
- There is no limit on the number of abstracts that may be submitted by one person or organisation.
- A maximum of four presenters may be listed per abstract.
- We are willing to consider submissions of material which has been presented elsewhere. Please ensure that the date and place of the previous presentation is clearly mentioned.
- If selected, you will also be required to submit a programme description of 50 words or fewer. This will be used in the conference programme and should accurately capture the subject of your presentation.

Criteria and process of selection
The congress programme committee will select the presenters according to the following criteria:
- relevance to the topic of the conference;
- contribution to evidence-based practice
- innovative content;
- clarity of the contribution.
All candidates will be informed about the results of the selection via email, no later than two months after the submission deadline.
All abstracts of the selected contributions will be made available on the BATOD and BAEA websites
Confirming the presentation in the final programme
- Everyone listed on the abstract submission is expected to attend the conference as a presenter.
- In order to attend, all presenters must register and pay for the conference.
- The presenters are responsible for all costs associated with their participation in the event.
