Speech and Language UK has published a new report ‘Listening to unheard children

Speech and Language UK explain they “worked with YouGov to poll 1,000 teachers across the UK. We aimed to find out more about the challenges facing children, families and teachers.

Our research shows that 1.9 million children are struggling with talking and understanding words. That’s a huge increase of 26% over the last two years.

For children who struggle with talking and understanding words, their whole lives are affected. They are six times more likely to fail at English tests and eleven times less likely to pass maths. They are also twice as likely to have mental health problems, and twice as likely to be unemployed as an adult. ”
