“Sixth Form students at Mary Hare School Celebrate Results Success
On Thursday 17 August Sixth Form students at Mary Hare School were celebrating as results were announced for A Levels, BTECs and Technical Qualifications.
The school, specialising in the education and support of deaf young people, has seen its students achieve a 100% pass rate for grades A* to E in A-levels and a Pass to Distinction * in Level 3 Diplomas and BTECs.
Students pursuing vocational qualifications at levels 1 and 2 have also excelled, securing 100% of passes across qualifications including Beauty Therapy, Animal Care, Childcare, Catering and Construction, to name a few.
Nicole is celebrating today with an A* in her Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and says “Achieving this grade in Childcare Level 3 has been an amazing way to end 2 years of essay writing and work placements. This will be a perfect steppingstone for me to study Occupational Therapy and then hopefully Play Therapy! Thank you so much to my teacher and TA for all their help and support.”
Vernon achieved an A in Biology and Chemistry and a B in Mathematics and shares his plans for his next steps, “Looking at my results, I could not have been prouder. I have worked hard in every lessons and persevered through the years. This attitude is the reason I passed my exams with flying colours. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life in University of Manchester to study Biomedical science.”
Emily achieved two A* and an A in Fine Art, Textiles, and Graphics and has been involved in lots of arts projects in her time at Mary Hare. Emily says, “I worked so hard. Some of the projects I really enjoyed and they made me feel happy. Thank you to my art teachers, they taught me everything. Now that I’ve passed my A Levels, I am going on to study Fine Art at University of Lancashire; I’m excited and at the same time nervous but I can’t wait. I will miss Mary Hare.” 
Numerous stories of success are worthy of celebration as 100% of students have been offered places in their first or second choice University placement, while others will embark on their next steps in college, apprenticeships, employment, or gap years. Students have accepted a range of courses including subjects such as Biomedical Sciences, Architecture, Childhood studies with therapeutic play, History, Fine Art and Graphics.
Principal Robin Askew shares his delight in the celebration and says, “Our mission is to secure the future for deaf children and, as is evident in today’s results, our Sixth Form students now have the power of choice for their next steps.
It is important that special schools like Mary Hare continue to remove barriers to learning and allow the pupils to demonstrate their full potential. Our pupils have worked hard to overcome the impact of deafness, such as delayed language development, and have performed at levels equal to their hearing peers.
Students, their families, and the staff have worked together tirelessly to attain these results, and I extend my gratitude to all for their contributions. I hope our students enjoy celebrating today as they look towards a bright future.”

“Celebrating GCSE Results Success at Mary Hare School
On Thursday 24 August, students at Mary Hare School celebrated as GCSE results were announced.
The school, specialising in the education and support of deaf young people, has seen its students celebrating results from their homes across the country.
This year’s results are a great demonstration of all their hard work, with 72% of GCSE grades achieved are Grade 4 and above and 74% of students taking both English Language GCSE and Maths GCSE achieved Grade 4 and above.
Jack Jennings, whose results include an 8 in English Language and 7 in Food Technology, says: ‘I am so relieved to have passed all nine of my GCSEs and, in particular, I am delighted to have achieved an 8 with Merit for English Language. I truly believe I could not have achieved these great results had I not moved to the Mary Hare School in Year 8. I would like to thank all my teachers and I am looking forward to Sixth Form at Mary Hare, studying A Level Economics and Media Studies, along with a BTEC in Business Studies plus AS Core Mathematics.’ 
Another student, Eleanor Davis, achieved a 7 in Fine Art and a 6 in Textiles, shared how she felt leading up to results day: “I felt nervous and scared before my results but I knew I had worked hard. Today I feel good, especially about my Art and Textiles, and also happy and proud of my friends.”
Congratulations also go out to those students that have received additional specialist support during their time at Mary Hare and are now in a position to transition to Level 3 qualifications within their chosen provisions, including at Mary Hare Sixth Form as well as other local mainstream provision in the student’s Local Authority.
Sarah Strudley, Vice Principal of Curriculum and Achievement at Mary Hare School, says ‘Well done to all our students as these results are a true testament to all their hard work, in particular the results for English Language. Thank you to all of the staff and the families for their support to our students, who should be proud of these results today. They are all inspiring deaf young people and we very much wish them the best of luck as they venture on their next steps and look forward to welcoming many of them back in September as they return for Sixth Form.’
