“Here is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people living with Usher syndrome, whilst gaining invaluable insight into the experiences of those living with progressive dual sensory loss. Usher Kids UK, in partnership with Deafblind UK, is hosting the 2nd summer camp from 22nd-28th July in Essex, for young people aged 11-25yrs living with Usher syndrome. We are recruiting volunteers from different professional backgrounds across education / health / support sectors, to help deliver the camp and enable the young people to gain maximum benefit from this life-changing experience. Training will be provided to ensure all volunteers have the knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake their roles, and help our campers and mentors foster confidence, friendships and self-advocacy skills which last a lifetime. Feedback from 2022 volunteers demonstrates the impact this experience had on them: “I loved every minute”, “The experience, people and memories made my summer”, “The organisation and communication with volunteers was great.
