I am a final-year Undergraduate at the University of Leeds completing my degree in BA Music and currently carrying out research for my dissertation, supervised by Dr Alinka Greasley. My dissertation explores the teaching methods for music lessons and activities employed in schools for the Deaf, compared to that of mainstream schools, and how these teaching methods may influence students’ perceptions and experiences of music.
This short survey, around 15 minutes, is aimed at anyone who has (or has had) hearing loss and who had experience of music education in secondary school. This survey asks about your experiences and opinions of your musical education. This could be through classroom music, instrumental lesson, or any other method of education. I am interested in all types of experiences and interactions with music.
This survey will also collect some basic demographic information (e.g., age, measure of hearing loss). However, all responses given in this survey will remain completely anonymous and you will not be able to be identified by the responses you give. If you are happy to participate in a short follow-up interview (conducted in either English or BSL), there will be the option at the end to leave your email address, however this is completely voluntary, and your email address will not be associated with any of the responses given. You are free to decline answering any question throughout this survey.
